Bob's New Life
Last weekend, I got to reunite with my old friend Bob Ganch, who I hadn't seen in a few years. He and his partner John recently moved out of suburban Martinez to the hills of Berkeley. Leaving the burbs was a HUGE change for Bob and it suits him well. They bought this amazing 4-story house overlooking the bay, one block from the trails of Tilden Park. The house was designed by a UCB professor in the concept of an Native American wigwam (it makes sense when you see it :) ). Did I mention the views? Check it out for yourself:

We're here!
Jack and I safely arrived a week ago Thursday to San Mateo. He's a real trooper. On the ride up, after about 45 minutes of frantic meowing, he resigned himself to the situation and didn't make another peep for the rest of the 5-hour drive. Now we're happily settled in the new apartment. He especially loves to sit in front of the balcony screen door and sniff the latest scents.
His owner is happy, too. The apartment is very comfortable, and I'm walking-distance to downtown San Mateo, with its great restaurants, park, and movie theatres. I've already made a couple trips up to SF - one on BART, and one on Caltrain, and both were very easy.
I had a great first week at work. Everyone is so nice and welcoming. I'm training with 3 other people, so we've formed a little posse already. The management threw a big potluck for us, and next week, we've got a big offsite "Iron Chef" challenge! Fun stuff. I'm also learning a ton about the reimbursement work I'll be doing, and it's really interesting. Looking forward to learning more.
That's the latest from San Mateo!

I'm moving home!!!

After three years of palm trees and daily star sightings, I've decided to bid farewell to the City of Angels and return home to the SF Bay Area. It's been quite a ride, but in the end, I wanted to be nearer to family and friends than the occasional Southwest flight allowed.
I'm also entering a new industry - healthcare consulting. I was blessed to find a job at a firm founded by one of my sister's friends - Premier Source Consulting in San Mateo. My title will be Case Manager, and basically I will be a patient advocate - working with drug companies and insurance companies to ensure that patients have access to needed prescription drugs. This is a great opportunity for me and I am very excited to start work on July 7th.
Not up for a big commute, I searched locally for apartments and found a great 1-bedroom (with a balcony!) in San Mateo, a couple miles from work. I can still commute by bicycle - yay! It's also very close to downtowns San Mateo and Burlingame, which are both very cute. No, neither has anything in the way of a gay scene, but there's a Caltrain station 2 blocks away to whisk me up the 15 miles to San Francisco for weekend debauchery.
As you can see, my cat Jack is very excited about the move. He hopes all you Bay Area folk will come down to meet him (he doesn't travel well).
I'm planning the move for Thursday July 3rd, so I'll see you locals soon thereafter. That's it for now - more updates soon!

I met Noah!!!
Last Thursday was SOAPnet's "Night Before the Daytime Emmys" bash, and the soap stars were out in full force. My lucky stars were aligned, because I got to meet my #1 soap crush - Jake Silbermann, who plays Noah on As The World Turns!
For the uninitiated, Noah is one half of the first male romantic couple ever on soaps. Noah and his boyfriend Luke go through all the traumas of any other couple - paralysis... homicidal father... green-card wedding to save an Iraqi damsel-in-distress from deportation. You know, the types of things the average American goes through every day. And just like any other couple, they've enjoyed a few hot passionate kisses. Still waiting for them to "consummate", though!
Anyway, I was all sweaty and flustered, but I went up to Jake and introduced myself, and thanked him for the work he does for the gay community. He was very friendly and gracious, and even took a pic with me. ***SIGH***... my life is complete. Enjoy the Jakey goodness...
